The Laredo Area Community Foundation (LACF), established in 2005 to serve South Texas nonprofit organizations and activities, celebrated its 3rd annual Gringo Barrio concert fundraiser at Siete Banderas on October 21st. Between ticket sales and donation pledges, LACF added $392,000 to its family of over 80 donor funds that have already distributed $2.6 million over the past 8 years into the communities of Laredo, Webb County, Cotulla and Zapata.
The LACF Gringo Barrio benefit concert event featured the debut of two albums, the Gringo Barrio band’s second album “Adelita,” which featured more music incorporating the sounds of Mexico with Texas folk-country, produced and performed by childhood friends Mike Jackson, Sparky Miller and Hank Sames, and the bolero stylings of Mike Jackson’s “Canciones del Cadillac Bar,” which opened the evening. The first cool night of the season and the casual, comfortable indoor/outdoor event encouraged the crowd of over 400 to linger ending the evening dancing to Hot Cakes Band from Austin, Texas well past midnight.
Laredo Area Community Foundation assists local charities, scholarship programs and other areas of need in Laredo and the South Texas area by helping mobilize much needed resources from our Donors to nonprofit organizations.
